The Philosophy of Deep In Translation
Deep In Translation is ultimately a state of being for the simple fact that we carry codes within us (DNA) derivative of a larger unifying string of energy and creation. We ourselves, as human as we are right now, seem to be deeply unique translations of the supreme creative (birthing) energy we’ve come to universally identify as love.
It seems the deeper we look for understanding within ourselves, the more unified existent nature across all expressions and forms become. It used to be only our most revered creative masters within particular sectors of society who would be adorned with the title of “(genius) artist,” and given collective permission to explore the depths of existence, creativity and related insights. Admittedly, it’s very easy to downplay one’s own artistic abilities in the face of these geniuses and their masterworks, attributing creativity as a whole to the few blessed with unmatched ability in their respective fields. However, even within the most basic expressions of human life, we find that every single person is afforded a uniquely creative and experiential dichotomy between perception and action (creation). Thus, the very natural cycle of experience, realization, acceptance, integration and evolution that is attached to the ability to perceive and act is present within all of our lives, and you’ve guessed it: that is the same cycle involved in the act of creation. In other words, the way we exist from moment to moment is, in fact, the basis of artistry. Through both our perception and actions taken based off of that perception, we all instinctually live as artists.
If we can learn the language of our artistry, outlined by both individually held and societally shared configurations of emotions, values, dreams, desires, thoughts, fears etc…, we can begin to craft a means of translating and interpreting our identity, with the ultimate goal of converging back into more fundamental, fulfilling states of being, which we can wholeheartedly identify as “being in love.”
With a primary trust and belief in creativity, artists across all mediums and modalities may begin excavating a path towards that sacred, shared, boundless dimension of love, working towards an alignment with that eternal oasis of inspiration where all seeds originate.
And then once we’ve bathed in that for a while, we can begin to identify and work intimately in our day to day lives with that animating and inspiring essence; the energy of origin, creation, love.
The Tool of Artistic Mediumship
Artistic mediumship is simply another phrase that can be used to describe the very dynamic act of creation, or, put more poetically, the artist’s alchemical engagement with inspiration. If this really is just another way of describing creativity, why not stick to the basic terminology instead of complicating the idea? Well, perhaps the phrasing of “artistic mediumship,” can highlight the agency we all as human beings possess within the very scheme of creation. Thanks to our human faculties (our senses, the mind as an instrument, our ability to feel and process emotions), within all moments exists the potential to receive inspiration. When one becomes familiar with the subtleties of this basal creative process (which naturally gives birth to a candid understanding of one’s own emotional and mental attunement, an acute sensitivity to the world’s energetic offerings, and an uninhibited conscious and subconscious method of transmuting these offerings), the magical and ethereal properties of creation are no longer externalized and proscribed to a source of power outside of ourselves. We awaken to our very innate, integral participation within the act of creation itself. In simpler terms, you are the catalyst. You are the medium channeling insight and wisdom from a nonphysical, yet undifferentiated source and translating it for the world through your own individuality.
Championing the Process of Integration
To engage “deep(ly) in translation,” is to delve into any given artistic process with a sustained intention of interpreting the essence of the work being done, and then through various means (contemplation, meditation, communication, etc…), allowing one’s perception to expound upon these insights until they illuminate new understandings of self. Thus, the name of our game is integration. Across all mediums, within all contexts, our endeavors are propelled by this single maxim: with how much clarity can we unearth the intimate details of our personal and shared human experience through the wielding of creation. In other words, how deeply can we translate the many realities within and around us to feed the spirit of creative endeavor, all the while contributing to the collective awareness and preparing the grounds for new emotional and mental maturation.
